I postponed a summons in April to yesterday morning cuz it was in the middle of my semester. But I got a bad bout of gastroentritis the night before and couldn't attend. I faxed over a physician's note stating that I should rest for the next few days to let it run its course. However, I didn't get the chance to speak to someone before the courthouse closed. I wanted to get it postponed again, but I don't know if I'm allowed to do that twice in a year in Alameda County. The problem is, I'm going on vacation in 2 weeks, and 1 week after that, I'm leaving the country for a semester abroad. In my situation, unless I don't get called for a trial, I have no choice but to postpone. Basically, I'm kind of stuck in a corner. Should I call and (attempt) to postpone my jury service once again? Can they make me serve even though I won't be in the state/country for long?... Read More »
